Hello Jesmond Public School,

Starting next Monday, Jesmond Public School will return to face-to-face learning through a ‘staged return’.

The best learning environment for students is in the classroom and we are looking forward to welcoming back our staff and students.

Students will return to face-to-face learning at school in the following order:

  • from 18 October – KSN, K/1B, 1OB, 1C only & K - 6O (all students from K - 6O)
  • from 25 October – 2C, 2K, 3/4WG, 3/4D, 5/6W & 5/6A

We have worked with NSW Health on our COVID-safe plan to return to school sites and have developed effective practices to support this, including staff vaccinations (all staff will be vaccinated by 18th October), physical distancing, mask wearing, reduced mingling of staff and student groups, ventilation in classrooms and continued good hygiene and cleaning.

All students should be at school on the date indicated for their year group, unless:

  • they have a medical certificate which says they can’t return to school due to a condition or illness
  • they are currently unwell
  • they have been asked by NSW Health to self isolate.

To make sure students reduce the risk of transmission across cohorts, Jesmond Public School has put in place staggered recess and lunch breaks, and finish times. Please see the following:

All students from Kindergarten to Year 6 can be at school anytime between 8:30 - 9:00am. Staff will direct students to their designated area to play before school commences.

K - 2 students will be finishing school at 2:50pm and can be collected from the top or bottom gate. Staff will supervise students if they need to wait for older siblings or friends to travel home.

Years 3 - 6 students will be dismissed at 3:00pm.

K - 2 including K - 6O (Cohort 1):

Lunch in classroom 11:00-11:10am

1st lunch 11:10-11:30am

2nd Lunch 11:30 – 11:50am

Recess 1:30 – 1:50pm (10 mins eating time under bottom COLA) .

Years 3 - 6 (Cohort 2):

Lunch in classroom 10:20-10:30am

1st lunch 10:30 – 10:50am

2nd Lunch 10:50 – 11:10am

Recess 1:00 – 1:20pm (10 mins eating time under top COLA).

Students are encouraged to bring a drink bottle which can be refilled in the classroom as bubblers will be non-operational.

Masks will be mandatory for all staff. Masks are strongly recommended for primary students both indoors and outdoors unless eating or exercising. Students should bring their own masks where possible, but schools will have back-up supplies just in case.

Parents and students will be notified if a decision is made to make the school closed for onsite attendance due to a confirmed case of COVID-19. Information about the operational status of the school will be distributed through Seesaw and Facebook.

Students who have borrowed a school device are not required to return them at this stage due to the possibility of snap lockdowns. We will advise when devices need to be returned to school.

Students with COVID-19 symptoms must be sent home and not return to school unless:

• they have a negative COVID-19 test result and are symptom free or

• they have isolated for 10 days, when no medical certificate is available.

In circumstances where children have other medical reasons for recurrent symptoms, a letter from their GP is sufficient to negate the requirement for a negative test.

Please contact the school if you have any questions.

Stay healthy,

Deborah Kelly
