5/6D

Welcome to 5/6D, Semester 1 2024!

5/6D have had a settled start to the year and commenced their learning with great enthusiasm.

In history, students have been learning about ‘stories of migration’. We have been researching why people come to Australia from all over the world. 5/6D have explored the different policies implemented over the years and discussed various ways governments responsed to these documents.

In science, we are exploring energy and how it is transferred and produced. 5/6D used technology to research the various kinds of energy.

In English, students are writing imaginative, informative and persuasive texts using a wide range of quality literature. Throughout our ‘Component A’ lessons we are focusing on handwriting, spelling, comprehension, grammar and punctuation and vocabulary.

In mathematics, 5/6D students have activated their prior knowledge through the use of Number Talks. In our Number Talks, we discuss methods used to solve worded mathematical problems. Throughout our explicit lessons, we use hands on materials to investigate and learn about fractions and decimals, area, length, multiplication and division as well as addition and subtraction.

In PDHPE, students have particpated in a hockey program. We practised basic hockey skills and used them in game situations.

5/6D have been participating in ‘The Resilience Project’, looking closely at mental health strategies. We have explored gratitude, empathy/kindness and mindfulness and looked at the ways in which we can use these strategies in our day to day lives.
