K-6O

Welcome to Semester 2, 2023 in K/6O!

K/6O have enjoyed lots of sport opportunities during the year. They have participated in two Inclusive Sport competitions – Boccia in Term 2 and Tenpin Bowling this term.

They also recently participated in the Variety Activate Inclusion Sports Day at Newcastle Basketball Stadium. Our students had a great time trying new sports and meeting students from other schools.

They also enjoyed participating in a gymnastics program at school for three weeks this term, run by Gymnastics NSW, through Sporting Schools. K/6O are looking forward to participating in swimming lessons at Valentine Swim School in Term 4.

Students in K/6O continue to work towards their learning goals. Each student in K/6O has a personalised learning plan and a literacy and numeracy goal they are working towards. Our students are given opportunities to use class iPads and laptops to incorporate technology to improve learning outcomes. This is integrated across different key learning areas such as writing, reading and numeracy. Our students also enjoy learning through a variety of hands-on experiences.

Morning circle is an opportunity for students to develop and practise their communication and social skills through interacting with their fellow peers and staff members. They greet each other and respond to the person who is speaking. Morning Circle incorporates key learning areas such as English, mathematics, science and technology, PD/H/PE, and creative arts. Students are given opportunities to use interactive calendars, weather charts, identify how they feel each morning with visual support and sing songs to help promote speech and learning concepts.

Library activities with Mrs Uhrig continue on a Wednesday this semester. Our weekly cooking program - to help promote independent living skills, healthy choices and communication is on Thursday. Students will also attend weekly assembly on Friday afternoon at 2:15pm, from Week 8 onwards.

K/6O have been focusing on the Earth and Space strand in science and will learn about the living world strand in Term 4. In geography, students are learning about the topic People Live in Places.

Student learning and announcements will continue to be communicated on Seesaw. We are looking forward to a fun semester ahead, of learning, growing and continuing to enjoy new experiences.
