K-6O

Welcome to Semester 1, 2024 in K/6O!

K/6O have had a busy start to the year. They have enjoyed Cross Country activities, Harmony Day, Crazy Sock Day for World Down Syndrome Day, and more.

Each student in K/6O has a personalised learning and support plan, with individual goals they are working towards. Our students are given opportunities to use class iPads and laptops to incorporate technology into achieving learning outcomes in different key learning areas – particularly with writing, as well as reading and numeracy skills. K/6O also enjoy learning through a variety of hands-on experiences, and participate in a weekly session of play-based learning with K-2.

Daily Morning Circle is an opportunity for students to develop and practise their communication and social skills. They interact with their fellow peers and staff members by greeting and responding to the person speaking. Morning Circle incorporates key learning areas such as English, mathematics, science and technology, PDHPE, and creative arts. Students are given opportunities to use interactive calendars, weather charts, identifying how they feel each morning with visual support and the use of songs to help promote speech and learning concepts.

Library activities with Mrs Uhrig are on Wednesdays in Term 1 and Tuesdays in Term 2. Our weekly cooking program, to help promote independent living skills, healthy choices and communication, will be on Wednesdays in Term 2.

During Term 1, K/6O will be focusing on the physical world strand in science and the material world strand in Term 2. In history, they will be learning about the topic personal and family histories.

During the year, K/6O students will participate in various inclusive sports with other schools. In Term 2, K/6O are looking forward to participating in the School Sport Unit Boccia Competition, for students with disability. As well as enjoying playing Boccia, our students have enjoyed meeting students from other schools in previous competitions.

Student learning and announcements will continue to be communicated on Seesaw. We are looking forward to a fun year ahead, of learning, growing and enjoying new experiences!
